Project Overview

This residential project in Subiaco, WA, was completed by Now Projects and involved a 100m² exterior cladding upgrade for a private residence owned by an architect. The brief was clear: modernise the look of the home using contemporary colours and sharp, clean lines. The homeowner had a strong architectural vision for a refined and low-maintenance finish that would stand the test of time.

NewTechWood’s US31 Shadowline Cladding in Shou Sugi and Sea Salt was selected to bring this vision to life — offering the sleek, modern aesthetic the client wanted, without the long-term upkeep typically required by traditional timber.

Design & Material Selection

Key considerations for this project included:

  • Architect-led design: As the home of an architect, the design brief was intentional — sharp lines, a modern colour palette, and materials that would perform over time without ongoing maintenance.
  • Bold colour contrast: Colours Shou Sugi and Sea Salt provided a striking mix of light and dark tones, adding depth and elevating the home’s architectural edge.
  • Weather resistance: The cladding is fully capped with a polymer shield, offering strong resistance to UV, moisture, mould, and fading — well-suited to WA’s harsh sun and dry climate.
  • Seamless finish: A hidden fixing system delivered a clean, uninterrupted surface with no visible screws or nails, in line with the client’s preference for refined detailing.
  • Low maintenance: Composite timber construction removes the need for painting, oiling, or staining — ideal for homeowners seeking durability with minimal upkeep.
